Gay marriage is still illegal in the Golden State, but that hasn’t stopped changing attitudes toward same-sex betrothals in California. A new Field Poll shows that 59% of Californians support same sex marriage, while 47% oppose it. Now compare that to three years ago when a Field Poll found 52% in favor and 47% opposed. The Field Poll folks show the changing numbers reflect Californians increasing comfort level with the idea of same sex marriages.
The changing numbers arrive as the court battle over same-sex marriages heats up again. A few weeks back an appeals court panel found California’s ban on gay marriages because of Proposition 8 to be unconstitutional. The full appeals court is now expected to repeal the issue. It could go all the way to SCOTUS.
