Is overregulation killing food trucks?

love their food trucks, but a new bill is floating around California’s state legislature that would ban food trucks from parking too close to schools. The thinking goes that food from trucks may compete with the schools’ healthy lunch initiatives. However, in dense city like San Francisco, this would leave very little room for the trucks to set up business. KCRW’s Steve Chiotakis spoke to Slate’s Matthew Yglesias about what’s happening nationally in the war between cities and trucks.

“If you were operating a business and suddenly competition showed up on the sidewalk, you wouldn’t be happy about it either… but the question is, should government be in the business of stifling competition?”
