Should condoms be mandated on adult film sets?

If proponents qualify it for the November ballot, L.A. County voters will vote on an initiative requiring the use of condoms during the production of adult films. Supporters see it as a way to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS both on and off the set. But porn producers say prophylactics and porn just don’t mix and are opposed to rolling cameras if condoms are required. KCRW’s Saul Gonzalez talked to Diane Duke, the executive director of the Free Speech Coalition, the adult film industry’s trade and lobbying organization, about the issue. She says that there has not been a transmission of HIV on an adult set since 2004, due to state of the art testing that happens every 28 days.

This is government coming in and telling us how to create our productions, how to make our films, it’s government coming in intruding on sexual behavior by two consenting adults. — Diane Duke
