Can USC Grow without devouring the neighborhood?

College towns have weathered the recession and housing collapse more than the rest of America, but the neighborhood around USC is an exception. Now USC is planning what local officials call the biggest project in South Los Angeles in a generation — 35 acres, complete with restaurants, shops, a six-screen theater, faculty office space and student housing. Will gentrification push local residents out, or is the university — often accused of ignoring its neighbors — be doing them a favor? Also, budget cuts and dependency court: the impact on families. let the "community" take care of ourselves …. set us free from your poverty mindset
we do not need help from you "good" people
JUST UP THE ZONING around USC and we will live or die on our own
without your condecending poverty promotion … we will help ourselves

  • James

Providers of student housing brought our neighborhood out of poverty and if the goal is to go back to poverty I am against that goal. We should bring the neighborhood up ( higher ) Then everyone will get the opportunity to grow and prosper just like our neighbor USC !!!

It is unfortunate that typically large developments are completed without taking the extra steps to help improve the immediate community that surrounds it. By SIMPLY upping the zoning around the neighborhood of the UV, land owners can continue the growth by adding value to their personal property. Let The Community grow WITH the University development by allowing property owners to improve their property just like USC is doing with theirs

Our neighborhoods around USC need jobs.
Why can we not be given some of the freedom
and opportunity given to Figuora and USC ?
Up the zoning Ups the fundamental value of
each zone . Each owner will have potential .
Some will sell, some buy, some borrow, some
will build … Set South Central LA free !!!

  • USC Grow without devouring is incredible, In contrast, most other algae (e.g. heterokonts, haptophytes, dinoflagellates, and euglenids) not only have different pigments but also have chloroplasts with three or four surrounding membranes. They are not close relatives of the Archaeplastida, presumably having acquired chloroplasts separately from ingested or symbiotic green and red algae. They are thus not included in even the broadest modern definition of the plant kingdom, although they were in the past.
