Prop 28: What you need to know

Californian’s primary election is next Tuesday and voters are being asked to weigh in on everything from cigarette taxes to a U.S. Senate race. June 5th also marks California’s first experiment with a “top two” primary system, in which the two candidates with the most votes, regardless of political party, will survive to face off in November. All this week KCRW is examining some of the major  races on the ballot to help voters better understand the issues.

Proposition 28: This measure would change California’s Legislative term limits law. Under Proposition 28, the amount of time someone could serve in the Legislature would be reduced from 14 years to 12. However, it would allow lawmakers to serve all of those years in a single House. State law currently allows lawmakers to serve six years in the Assembly and eight years in the Senate. KCRW explains:
