In the Oscar-nominated movie “Silver Linings Playbook,” Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence play two people with mental illness.

The film is directed by David O. Russell, who went to Washington D.C. last week to push for improvements in the nation’s mental health care system. Russell and Cooper met with Vice President Biden to discuss the necessity for increased access to mental health care.

Russell spoke with KCRW’s Steve Chiotakis about the impact he hopes his film will have.
