L.A. School Board President Richard Vladovic is denying charges that he sexually harassed a district employee a decade ago. That accusation and others were revealed in documents obtained by the L.A. Times through a public records request. One accuser says Vladovic made off-color jokes, used slurs about an employees’ sexual orientation and once handed her a swingers magazine to look at. Through an aide, Vladovic denied any wrongdoing…Gov. Jerry Brown has signed several pieces of legislation this year granting new rights to immigrants in California. But the governor has drawn a line when it comes to jury service. Brown vetoed a bill that would have made California the first state in the nation to allow legal immigrants who are not citizens to serve on juries…State regulators have reached a deal with the owners of a Vernon battery recycling plant that’s been cited for emitting hazardous amounts of toxins. Exide Technologies says it will spend more than $7 million over the next two years on upgrades that include installing more efficient filters to minimize the amount of arsenic thrown out into the atmosphere…
Sandy Koufax, Kirk Gibson and Juan Uribe? On a team full of stars, it was unheralded third baseman Uribe who struck the biggest blow for the Dodgers last night as they edged the Atlanta Braves 4-3 to win their divisional playoff series. Uribe’s two-run eighth-inning blast sent a sold-out Dodger Stadium into pandemonium and propelled the Blue to the National League Championship series. They’ll play the winner of tomorrow night’s game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates…And finally, UCLA is appealing to a federal court to allow the school to keep its baseball stadium at the West L.A. Veterans Affairs campus. The court ruled in August that the V.A. was improperly leasing land for purposes that had nothing to do with veteran’s health care.
