California Election Results

Election results are in and there aren’t any big surprises here in California. As expected, Jerry Brown won the race and will serve his fourth term as governor. Neel Kashkari in his concession speech said he asked the governor to: “please be bold.”

In LA County, Sheila Kuehl beat out Bobby Shriver in the Supervisors race, replacing Zev Yaroslavsky in the third district.

More than $30 million was spent on the race for Superintendent of Public Instruction, which pitted two Democrats against each other: incumbent Tom Torlakson and education reform advocate Marshall Tuck. Torlakson kept the job, in what is being seen as a big win for the union.

Kamala Harris was also reelected as Attorney General; State Controller John Chiang will be the next treasurer; and Democrat Betty Yee will become Controller.

There were a bunch of state-wide measures: Propositions 1 and 2, which were championed by Gov. Brown passed. Propositions 45, 46 and 48 did not. Prop. 47, which eases sentencing, also passed.
