Which California cities are raising the minimum wage?

Written by

The L.A. city council has voted to proceed with a plan to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2020. Small businesses (those with 25 or fewer workers) will have until 2021 to raise their wage.

The City Attorney’s Office will now draft an ordinance that will return to the council for a final vote.

This will put Los Angeles (the city, not the county) in the company of a handful of California cities that have raised their individual rates above the $9 /hour state minimum.

This potentially places LA City in strange position — surrounded by neighboring cities that have a much lower minimum wage, and might force other cities to follow suit.

All this week we’re looking at the minimum wage fight and you can follow along here.
