A $25 ticket to the top of L.A.’s skyline

The owners of U.S. Bank Tower – the city’s tallest structure – are building an outdoor observation deck and restaurant on the top floors.

The view will be spectacular, but it won’t be cheap: The price is $25 per visitor.

The L.A. Times reports the U.S. Bank Tower deck will be run by the company that operates the observation deck at the new One World Trade Center in New York. That building – which replaced the twin towers brought down in the 9-11 attacks – is the tallest in the country.

The restaurant is a new venture by L.A. chef Vartan Abgaryan, who’s currently in charge of the kitchen at the Cliff’s Edge restaurant in Silver Lake.

The new features are part of a $50 million renovation of the 72-story building. The owners are hoping to cash in on the city’s growing tourism business. A special entrance is being built to whisk visitors to the observation deck without disrupting the tower’s corporate tenants.wilshire_grand_construction

By the way, U.S. Bank Tower won’t be the city’s biggest building for long. The Wilshire Ground Tower under construction downtown will be 73 stories, and a bit taller than the U.S. Bank Building. It will also have an observation deck, along with a rooftop pool. It’s slated to open in 2017.
