Political newbie gets big cash from outside of district

A 28-year-old Republican has raised more than $1 million in his race to replace Lois Capps and represent the 24th District in Congress.

Most of Justin Fareed’s money – 80% – has come from donors who live outside of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo County.

The L.A. Times reports $200,000 has come from donors with ties to two of the state’s largest nursing home operators.

KCRW’s Jonathan Bastian spoke with L.A. Times reporter Javier Panzar about where this money came from and how it will affect the primary election.
