Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City? Guerrilla artist Robbie Conal says being immortalized alongside Bart Simpson easily trumps that honor.
For decades Conal has mobilized volunteers in the dark of night to poster his political messages all over Los Angeles. You may recognize one of his most notable pieces, Simpsonized above. Ron English, Shepherd Fairey, and Kenny Scharf are Conal’s partners in crime in the episode that airs Sunday, titled “Exit Thru the Kwik-E-Mart.” (For you Banksy fans out there, that’s a riff on the documentary about that elusive street artist; how’s that for highbrow colliding with pop culture?!)
What are the likes of Conal and friends doing in The Simpsons? Fox summarizes it this way:
“Bart becomes a guerrilla graffiti artist. Meanwhile, a new store opens in Springfield that puts Apu and the Kwik-E-Mart out of business.”
