Listen: Mr. Song’s story

Immigrants account for 12 percent of the 40 million elderly living in the United States. Most of them come to the US with the help of their adult children, who sponsor and support them once they’re here.

But others come on their own and often struggle to make a new home late in life, with limited English skills or work options. This is the story of Mr. Song, a 68-year-old, free-spirited Chinese immigrant trying to become a US citizen on his own.
